Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Sher Afzal Marwat has been arrested and transferred to Golra police station in Islamabad, officers confirmed on Thursday.
A heavy police contingent took Marwat into custody, main him away as PTI employees had been arriving at Tarnol for a scheduled rally. However, the rally was later postponed.
The arrests come amidst heightened tensions as PTI continues its public mobilisation efforts regardless of ongoing authorized challenges.
Earlier within the day, PTI postponed its deliberate rally at Islamabad’s Tarnol Chowk, now rescheduled for September 8 following roadblocks by native authorities and directions from get together founder Imran Khan.
The choice was finalised after senior PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Azam Swati, and Barrister Gohar met with Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Following the assembly, Azam Swati and Barrister Gohar spoke outdoors the jail, confirming the rally’s delay and saying the brand new date.
Swati declared, within the presence of Barrister Gohar, that the rally will now be held on September 8 with safety preparations in place. He added that PTI’s Islamabad chapter, led by Aamir Mughal, would safe the required permissions for the occasion.
