
Six males have been arrested after an inmate died at a jail in Leicestershire.
Police had been known as to HMP Fosse Way, in Tigers Way, Glen Parva, on Tuesday, after a 31-year-old man was discovered unresponsive in his cell.
The man’s dying is at the moment being handled as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing, Leicestershire Police mentioned.
The arrested males stay in police custody, the power added.
The £286m Category C jail, which has area for 1,715 inmates, was first opened by the federal government in June 2023.
It changed the previous HMP Glen Parva which closed in 2017.
A spokesman for Serco, which manages the power, mentioned: “We can verify {that a} 31-year-old man has died at Fosse Way jail.
“The matter is now being investigated by Leicestershire Police.”
The design of HMP Fosse Way follows the blueprint of HMP Five Wells, which the Ministry of Justice mentioned aimed to “increase safety, rehabilitate offenders and defend by serving to prisoners discover work”.
It consists of X-shaped blocks, trade workshops and quite a lot of lecture rooms designed to coach offenders.
